THE DESIGNER DOG

. Designer Dogs have become increasingly popular the past couple of years. Is it a passing fad or here to stay? What is a Designer Dog? How did they get started? There is more to a Designer Dog than being a mixed breed. Many considerations have been involved. Even well known breeders and judges of Purebred dogs are becoming fans of the Designer Dog.
There are so many different mixed breeds that have become known as a Designer Dog, it would take more than this lens to list all of them. The difference between a Designer Dog and a Mutt is the breeding. That's kind of funny, because that's the difference between a Purebred and a Mutt. Did you know all Purebreds were at one time a mixture of breeds?
The most important thing to remember about these new crosses is that they are dogs and all dogs need love and care. They are a long term commitment. So whatever you decide, be sure to commit to your new dog for life.
Getting back to the difference between Mutts and Designer Dogs. Most Mutts are of unknown origin. Mutts can have more than 2 breeds in their heritage. Whereas to create Designer Dogs, two Purebred dogs are bred together on purpose in order to produce certain desirable qualities from both parents. Did you know that all purebred dogs were once designer dogs? They all began as a mixture of other breeds to achieve a certain type.

Mix Poodle Breeds
More and more people are requiring poodle mix dogs for family pets. The days of the big large 1/4 acre section in New Zealand are disappearing, small sections, Townhouse and apartment dwellings have become the norm. Smaller dogs are becoming the more favourable companion. Poodle mix breeds are perfect for todays living conditions. They really are a superb alround pet for both City and Country living. Take a walk down Ponsonby Road or Mission Bay and watch the many proud "oodle owners" parading their most loved pets. We own a Schnoodle ( Schnauzer / Poodle ). She is everything we ever wanted in a pet for our family, she loves the open spaces, the water, the mud, the car while at the same token she is comfortable in small living situations. she is a gentle easy to maintain pet.
Miniature Poodle mix breeds are the perfect size for taking out in the car and yes no fur, no mess apart from the odd muddy footprint. Great travelling companions they can go just about anywhere with you.
The Poodle mix promotes a non-shedding, low allergetic, ouderless coat, In most cases they have a medium to long coat that will need grooming, whether you do this yourself or take to a groomers. Not all Poodle mixes how-ever are non shedding. My parents own a Retrodoodle ( Golden Retriever cross Poodle ) Long haired and sheds, this may be as he sways more to the Golden Retriever side. While his siblings swayed more to the Poodle coat, this is something that cannot be guaranteed when thinking of breeding with Poodles. If it is the non shedding coat you are looking for in a dog do your homework first and choose low shedding dogs to breed with such as the Schnauzer, Spaniel, Maltese etc.
